Learn this! A minor Pentatonic scale first position
The minor pentatonic scale is the most useful scale for guitarists, ever! It's only 5 notes and is the most common scale in blues, pop and rock music. It sounds great over almost every chord change in a key, and you can begin to make music with it almost immediately. The example below is in A minor, so if we were playing over a chord progression in A minor, C major (the relative major to A minor) or even a blues in A this scale will work really well!
The example below shows two places on the neck where you can play position 1 of the Am pentatonic, with the second example being up an octave.
Try playing this scale using down picking at first, then move towards alternate picking (down up picking).
